WASTE SEGREGATION

This is going to be an uncomplicated but important topic. We'll be discussing the segregation of 'waste' in this blog.

Let's Begin...

Waste segregation means dividing waste into dry and wet. Dry waste includes wood and related products, metals, and glass. Wet waste typically refers to organic waste usually generated by eating establishments and is heavy in weight due to dampness.

SEGREGATION OF HOUSE WASTE

1) Wet Waste/Kitchen Waste - This comprises items like fruit peels, leftovers, vegetable skins, uncooked food, coffee or tea powder, and garden waste like leaves and twigs. Maintain a bin to separate it from other wastes so that it can be converted into rich organic compost.

2) Dry Waste - It is divided into Recyclable & Non- Recyclable waste.

3) Sanitary Waste - Sanitary waste includes diapers (adults & babies), synthetic sanitary napkins, hygiene-related products, condoms, tampons, soiled napkins.
Medical Waste - liners, beddings, items contaminated with blood or body fluids, plaster casts, etc.

4) E-Waste - It includes tube lights, light bulbs, cables, chargers, batteries, monitors, etc. Collect them in a separate container as tube lights can be hazardous.

IMPORTANCE OF WASTE SEGREGATION

Waste Segregation makes it easier to recycle waste.

Effective segregation of waste means that less waste goes into landfills which makes it better for the people and the environment.

When we segregate waste at home daily, we're winning half the battle as a responsible citizen.

This will considerably bring down the problems of your municipal authorities to manage solid waste.

It makes it easier for the waste pickers and disposal workers to differentiate between the degradable components from the non-biodegradable ones.

THE THREE R'S ( REDUCE, REUSE, AND RECYCLE)

REDUCE:- It means being more careful so that you have less waste to segregate. If you will have less rubbish, it will be easier for you to segregate it.
For example- Avoid using paper if not necessary. It is environment-friendly.

REUSE:-  It means to use the same item/product again, rather than throwing it even if you can use it again. There are many creative and interesting ways in which you can reuse items.
For example- You can reuse empty glass ketchup bottles as vases or other decorations.

RECYCLE:- It means to convert used materials into new products to save resources and generating new products out of waste.
For example- You can use newspapers for wrapping gifts or covering doors and windows during a white-wash.

It is important that the government and citizens decipher this issue of waste as soon as possible before it causes more harm to us and to the environment.
