RISING AIR POLLUTION

Air Pollution in India is a serious health issue. In the Northern part of the country, it increases even more around the festival of Diwali, making it a cause of great concern for the government (sadly not the people).

The time between October 15 and November 15 is considered critical for majorly Delhi-NCR's air quality due to certain reasons.

REASONS -

⇨ STUBBLE BURNING - In short, the production of crops has also increased the agricultural waste and generation of husk. Farmers usually gather the husk and put them on fire as it is the easiest way to dump it. However, doing so creates a serious issue that is directly linked to our environment. A large number of toxic gases are emitted into our atmosphere. The toxic gases become the cause of numerous health issues. Studies have shown that Stubble Burning has caused great deterioration in the air quality of Punjab and Haryana (primarily).

WEATHER PATTERNS - The continuous increase in anthropogenic emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases is dramatically changing climate, both overall and at the regional level. Climate change is influencing outdoor air pollution levels because the generation and dispersion of air pollutants(such as ozone and particulate matter) depend on local patterns of temperature, wind, solar radiation, and precipitation.

FIRECRACKER EMISSIONS - With air quality plunging to dangerous levels around Diwali every year, the Supreme Court in 2018 banned polluting firecrackers and ordered that only green firecrackers can be manufactured and sold. But the green pyrotechnics has failed to draw good response both from sellers and buyers due to lack of variety, limited stock, and higher prices. Last year also people continued to buy conventional firecrackers and use them.

The most common dialogue that I've heard from people is ' Ek din main kya hoga?' (What happened in one day?) That's such a dumb thing to say!!! πŸ˜’ This ignorant attitude has caused us to harm every time. Especially during Covid, it is important for us to keep our health as our priority. Causing harm to the environment will definitely harm us.

PREVENTION -

πŸ † Stubble burning is a serious issue and it must be sought on an immediate effect. With such a grave impact on the environment, understanding the importance of opting for potential alternatives to stubble burning is the only available solution.

Providing stubble collecting machines to the farmers or offering reasonable labor to reap paddy fields in order to avoid stubble generation is another way to control the issue.
Offering temporary employment to the people in need during the harvesting time is another way to combat the situation.
πŸ † I will not say use fewer firecrackers, just don't use them. In the present year has been evident that green firecrackers are not used by the people. It's simply that your health is more important than emitting smoke into the atmosphere. No one is asking you to stop celebrating Diwali, celebrate it with your family and friends, eat, party, decorate your homes, spread joy and happiness. Make Diwali more Positive.

To call yourself a Human, you need to become one. You need to care for the Environment to be called a Human.
START CARING. STOP IGNORING
